Hey everyone,

I was able to start the 820 with a jump, but it stalled in the blackberries. It would not turn, or click, and I was unable to jump it again. The battery was showing about 0.4 volts and needs to be replaced. Could this be as simple as a dead battery?

What should I replace the single battery with? This tractor can be run with tandem or single, but is set up for single. The operator's manual says part AT29158 (12 V, BCI Group 24T, CCA 385-300, 116 reserve capacity).

Wiring is a bit of a mess also... The starter switch is partially bypassed and it all seems to work, but not as intended... Photos.

Thanks,

Joe

Dead battery, bad connections. I use two batteries in my JD 2030 diesel. I also ran the ground to the engine, rather than the sheet metal battery box.

I agree with Zebrafive to relocate ground cable connection from battery box to starter mounting bolt or engine block if that task hasn't already been performed. I also agree with K7LN that you need new battery cable. If it was my tractor I put a larger 12V battery that would fit in battery box such as a 90AH(680 CCA)

JD part spec's state wire cover is black.

Thanks,

Get a heavier battery cable and get rid of the bolt on battery terminal. Used a soldered on battery terminal. Make sure you have a good ground. Many people will place the ground connection on a starter attach bolt

Thanks for the help. The new terminal and battery worked great. I went with the 27 battery, but it only fits inside the battery box with the side panel removed.
