JD 855 PTO not working

I have a 1997 JD 855 with both a rear and mid PTO. I purchased a house/small farm last year and it came with the property so I don't necessarily have much background with the tractor other than its been running like a champ for almost a year now (other than the PTO has never worked).

Trying to diagnose why neither PTO will engage. I'm guessing it has something to do with the seat switch or electromagnet for the engaging lever. When I put the lever in "engage" mode (forward or up) nothing happens - including NO light comes on on the dash and this is the reason I'm assuming electronic issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I would suggest you look for a copy of the service technical manual for the 855 as there are instructions how to go through the various PTO checks.. for $50 - $70 (maybe less on eBay) you can get a CD with the manual or maybe a paper copy.

But also google JD 855 and several hits will come up to download operator and service manuals.

Also, a member here may have a .pdf copy to email to you. Can PM your email if that becomes a possibility.

Mine came with the electromagnet tie wrapped to the handle with an HD tie wrap. It gets the job done.

I think all my safety switches are bypassed from previous owners but everything works so haven't looked into it.

I did get a limb jammed up in my PTO linkage once and had to hook a chain on the rod to pull it down straight with a screwdriver.
