I have a 1995 JD 855 this is my first winter. When the tractor is first started it smokes terrible, like a white/gray smoke and also had a miss in the engine. At higher idoling speeds it gets worse. As the tractor get warmed up it seems to run better. I have been through the following steps with no success:
1. Drained the tank and put new fuel in and also changed the fuel filter.
2. Checked the injectors by cracking the fuel line at each injector. 2 of the 3 injectors made a difference in the way the tractor would run. The 3rd injector did not make a difference so I had that one rebuilt. After fixing the injector the tractor still runs the same.
3. Swapped the new injector to a different cylinder and the problem stayed with the cylinder.
4. Disconneted the fuel lines from the pump and hand pumped the injector pump as suggested by a dealer to verify no fuel would come out - I was told this would verify the pump was good.
5. Replaced the exhaust valve spring in the cylinder that I believe is the problem - no help. I also checked compression in that cylinder and it has great commpression.
With the weather getting warmer the tractor seems to be running better.
If anyone has any other suggestions they would be much appreciated.
Thanks
