I'm in the market for my first tractor and with no brand loyalty yet I'm entertaining all options! I will be using a tractor for brush hogging, moving manure, woods work, landscaping, some snow removal.

One option that's coming my way is an auction for a John Deere 870 4WD. The auction lists the following details: "with Bucket Model 80, Backhoe Model 8A, Brush Hog, Logging Arch, Box Blade, 2 Blade Harrow w/Discs, 4 AG Tires, Post Hole Digger, Finish Mower, Roto-Tiller and Yard Rake"

It has 1221 hours on it.

Anyone have advice on this particular tractor, are the hours high and what should I expect the auction price to go to? If I were to go to the auction, how much should I cap my bid at?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Considering all those attachments (especially the backhoe), I'd suggest a cap of about $16000 but no more. That assumes the tractor is in very good condition.

The hours aren't bad...that 870 is a stout machine (28 Engine HP, around 25 PTO HP)
