Mowing JD 955 mower V-belt install

I ve got the belt threaded but cant seem to get the tensioner reattached. Can someone tell me the steps...perhaps I've done it in the wrong order? This is on the mower deck. Also, how do I keep the PTO engaged without having to hold the lever all the time? Sorry if this seems stupid but really new to this machine

IME, it's impossible to do without mechanical assistance. It's been a while, hope I can describe how I do it.

I use a short piece of chain and a small chain binder, also guessing there is no tension on the spring now. Remove the link arm from the spring. Install the belt over all pulleys, hook the chain binder so it'll tension the spring & pull the belt tight, then slip the link arm back on to the spring.

I can try to get a few pics tonight of where I hook things up.
