JD 970 clutch

Is there any adjustment on the clutch on a 970? seems to be slipping under load, and I dont have a manual. Whats involved in replacing? anyone have any ideas on cost?

Clutch free travel should be less than 15mm and not more than 25mm. Adjustment is via a turnbuckle under the step plate. Remove the step plate to access the turnbuckle.

Generally, there's several JD OEM manual's for the 870-970-1070 series on eBay. I bought the owner's manual and the Technical Repair manual on eBay. Very reasonably priced as I recall.

If you're only gonna buy one manual and you do most (or all) of your own maintainence and repairs - buy the Technical Repair Manual. Great book! Lot's of pictures and very well written.
