My 990 will be arriving at my house in about 48 minutes. I have been waiting for over 10 years now for a tractor. I have been looking at used ones lately but a friend of mine told me about the 990. I have worked on my Grandfather's farm all my life but have never driven a tractor (hard to believe).

I bought the tractor new for 20,010. I tried to haggle with them but they wouldn't budge especially after I told them I was going to use the 0% for 36 months. There probably want be a next time but if I do have to buy a new tractor I want mention the financing until I am through haggling. Was this a fair price? I was too excited to leave and try another store.

The reason I bought the tractor was to help me keep the 6 acres around the 10 acre lake kept up. The lady I bought it from let it go so I have taken upon myself to make the property look a million bucks. My question to you guys is what type of attachment do I need to keep the area clean. I was thinking about sickle bar mower.

You did fine on your price. The 790/990 series are not discounted as heavily as the other models. The theory being the 790/990 are the value class and they are priced that way to begin with.

We need more details about what you will need to clear before we can offer opinions on attachments. Fire away!!

A rotary cutter is probably the way to go. Sicklebar mowers are expensive and require more maintenance.
However, this depends on what the banks are like. If they're sloped, a rotary cutter might not work unless you're willing to back down and drive up. If the slopes ae severe, a sicklebar may be the only option. You'll want to get a counterbalance of some sort though.
Another possibilty is using one of those offset flail mowers. That's a pretty expensive option though.
