I was wondering what a decent price would be for a 1945 JD A? I found one for under $2k and by the description it's in good shape - has good tires/paint. I haven't looked at it yet, so I can't say anything for sure about it. Is this a good deal?

Thanks.

BTW, this is my first post here. I've been looking at tractors for a while and thought I'd join this place.

Sounds good to me if it really is in good shape, including tires. Paint dont mean nothing, but sheetmetal condition does. Old JD's generally fetch more money than other colors but mabe the precarious economy is finally starting to bring them down a bit also. That was a very popular model, but it is kinda of big for many collectors, which keeps prices lower.

ok, thanks.

The ad says it's a straight tractor and it has a slant dash, 12 volt. I'm going to try to look at it soon. I'll see how the sheet metal is.

Here's a beauty 30 miles from me, that's got me thinkin'!!!

1944 John Deere A tractor

Fill out your profile so we know where you are! ~Scotty

You might want to look at the vintage tractor forum also. I just bought a 1947 M, and I'm not even gonna broach the subject of this "A" with the Missus! ~S

Does it have the rock shaft arms? They can be real expensive if it doesn't have them. Also if it doesn't have them you have no three point hitch.

For under 2K, looks like a keeper! Lots of sights out there if you google Antique+John+Deere+Tractor. Deerely departed, johnnypopper, tractordata, Yesterday's tractors, etc. PM me if you need help. ~Scotty

Your in the HeartLand of JD country, so your prices made be racheted down, cuz there's more to choose from! Google Gathering+of+the+Green, for nice pics! ~S

No 3pt add $1000 if you can find a set. No Powr-Trol (no hydraulics.) Look at the hood opening for the muffler most were cut square to facilitate removal - less valuable as a collector. Start it and let it warm up, if it won't run with the choke pushed all the way in the carb is gummed up & needs cleaning. Happens due to sitting.

Very limited utility as a working tractor Hydraulics are 5 qts at 1000 psi vs a modern tractor 3000 psi at 15-20 gals. It won't lift a loaded dump trailer or to max height either.

I have a '48 A in the barn rarely comes out.
