Am looking to trade in the 2305 for a 2520, was wondering if the JD backhoe is better than the Woods? Is the backhoe hookup a pain on the 2520? Has anyone used the backhoe on the 2520 yet, and what do you think of it? Thanks Fitz /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

All I can say is I really like the Woods new line of groundbreaker backhoes. If they had been out when I bought mine, I probably would have bought one.

The construction is excellent, and the 4pt mounting system is too.

Hi fitz,

I don't have either, but haven't heard any complaints about either with the exception of getting a Woods onto a newer JD on TBN a while back... if memory serves it was in that smaller CUT range (2305-2520(?))

If it were me, I'd look to put the backhoe on that was expressly designed for the tractor in question unless some incredible deal or disparity in capabilities exists between the two--so go green.

If any issues came up post-purchase with the hoe or tractor, you'd only have one company to deal with... no question about fault or warrantability.

Fitz-
I just bought and installed a 46BH (JD) on my 4110

I had looked into a Woods hoe earlier. They were nice, but I decided to go with the JD one. If i recall the specs between the two were similar- some better each way! If you're buying a package deal I don't think the cost would be that much different. So in my opinion you couldn't go wrong with the 46BH.

As to ease of hookup- I obviously can only speak in regards to a 4110- but it is not bad at all. I am making a dolly to set the hoe on to make it even easier.

Good Luck! Jason

JasonL, thanks for the info, still looking at the 2520. This info definitely pushes me closer to that point. Have you used the backhoe more, does it rospond well? Thanks Fitz /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The most valuable response to that question will be from
someone who has bought, used, and lived with b/hs from
both companies. Since there are few people on TBN who
have had both the BX80 and the JD 48, for example, you
are left with testimonials and specs, but few first-hand
comparisons.

On specs, you should realize that things like digging forces
are figured for different conditions, like test pressure. Weights
are given with bkts and without. More important would be
cyl sizes and apparent construction stoutness. 2 vs 1 swing
cyl is a big deal, too. Pin sizes over 1" are nice. Availability
of good subframes for your tractor is a must, unless you
build it yourself.

My 2c. (First hand experience with only one brand.)

Fitz-

I have dug out 5 stumps so far-(ranging from 6" dia to 18")

Yes, I am satisfied with the hoe.

More power would be nice- but you have to remember what we're dealing with. (A compact tractor and hoe)

The one feature I particulaly like is that the boom will swing a full 180. I think the woods hoe was only 150 degrees. Those extra feet give more options for the spoils piles when digging.
As I said earlier, I'm sure they are both good hoes!

The swing arc on the BH80-X and the BH70-X is 180 degrees, I don't know about the other models. I have a BH80-X and it has plenty of power for my needs.

I dug out some of my brochures on Woods BHs because I didn't want to steer someone wrong.

The BH6000 GroundBreaker (which if I was told correctly was the only one that they had a subframe for my tractor) only as a swing arc of 150 degrees.

It appears as if their larger BHs do swing the full 180 degrees.
