My local JD dealer has some used front end mowers for sale.

Are these prices in-line?

1. 1998 with 250 hours & rear bagger for $3,000 - very nice shape.

2. 1995 with 1800 hours & no bagger for $1,600 - well used but runs well.

3, 1994 with 450 hours & bagger for $1,300 but pretty beat up.

This still seem pricey considering the age of the equipment. We just bought a new F725 for $8,000 last year which is much more equipment.

I can also get a 8-10 hour demo Simplicity Lancer for $2,700 with full warranty, but I like the deere test drive better.

(Sorry, I see now that I am not in the Lawn & Garden section.)

I guess 2004 is the last year of manufacture for the F525.

Any opinions on the mowers? I like the newer condition, but the older price.

Thanks

Yooper Dave

Yooper Dave,

We share a common interest in these small front mowers! The best price for 3 grand for the low hour one is what I would get. It is the best deal out of the bunch. I love these and this is what I use at work to mow. A very early F525 like late 80s or 1990-1991 due to the old style steering wheel that was used back then. It has 1100 hard hours and runs good. My boss claims these are junk and same with people at the dealership who have used them, but I like them a lot. They saw transmission and engine problems in low hour units. One guys uncle owned one and the transmission casing cracked. I see no such problems in mine at work. I do love to mow with it even though there is no paint on the deck or metal anymore and half of the plastic foot rest is gone! I would buy one new if they made one yet in the US. I would take it over the new Lancer for the reason that the Kawasaki motor is 10x better than that Briggs in the Lancer. For that reason I will not get the Lancer and have decided to order the Husky with the Kohler motor.

2 years ago I bought a 98 with 135 hrs on it. looked like new and no bagger. I gave $3500 for it. I would jump on the 98 model.
