Just curious if anyone has any experience with the JD F935 front mount mowers, 72" deck, 28 hp deisel. I have seen one with 2600 hrs that looks like it has been well cared for. I know that many of these are abused pretty good commercially. Although I had heard people say that these mowers are pretty much bullet proof and 5,000 hrs could be reached without too many problems. The one I have seen does have 2600 hours on it. Just curious if these are good mowing machines and what a fair price would be for one with that many hours. I am looking to mow about 3 acres with it. Thanks for your input.

I borrowed a used one from the dealer a few years ago. It had a lot of hours on it (don't remember exactly). It worked great until it got warmed up and then the hydro trans slipped so bad that I could'nt climb even the slightest slope. A good dealer will let you borrow a used machine to check it out. Unlike a new one, a used one's value will not suffer if used as a demo for an hour or two.

These are EXCELLENT cutting machines. Problem is that with this many hours, I would surmize that it was probably used commercially. Yes, these machines will go 5,000 and more hours with good maintenance. Rarely is this the case with commercial mowers. I agree with the last post, see if you can test it out and run it for several hours and observe how is does. At the very minimum if you do decide to purchase this mower, I would change EVERY filter and fluid in it as well as a FULL going over service. Expect to change bushings, links, and spacers, as well as spindles with that many hours. If you can get this machine for the right price......... I would consider maybe around $1500 - $2000; it just may be worth the cost of replacement parts which will be COSTLY. I more or less did what you are thinking with an F525 with about 550 hours on it. I spent about $250 in parts and $100 in tires but I have a great little front mower which is as manuevable as a push mower as far as trimming. I recently saw one at my local dealer as a trade in with 446 hours on it. They wanted $1500. These are NOT cheap new........ nearly $6000.

Found locally:

John Deere F935 22HP Three Cylinder Diesel Front Mount Mower, Hydrostatic Transmission, 60" Front Mount Mower, 47" Two Stage Snow Blower, 60" Rotary Sweeper Broom, 400 hours, Excellent Shape, $12,900.00

I'm not really in the market for one, but I always go back and look at this because it seems very handy.

I have the Kubota equivalent and I am totally satisfied with it. The one I bought had been owned by a small town for several years. I am the second owner. The hour meter was broken at about 4500 hours, so who knows how many hours are on it. Several sources told me to expect to get at least 8000 hours from the engine. The only maintenance I have had to do is replace the alternator and fix a connection in the wiring harness. I paid the equivalent of about $US6500 for the tractor, a 60" side discharge mower deck, a 50" snowblower, a 50" dozer blade and a full metal cab. I just converted a 3ph tiller to a front mount to work on the tractor and will likely pick up a rotary broom in the near future. My main uses are cutting grass and blowing snow. I previously had a Snapper 1855 and I am much happier with the F2400. There are times when I wish I had a FEL but I wouldn't trade for a CUT. This is a perfect outfit for my property.

I have heard conflicting stories about the Yanmar engines in the JD F935. Some say they only last about 3000 hours while others say they last up to 5000 hours.

Cool looking cab! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I bet that makes snow blowing so much more tolerable. Nice rig you have there.

Just picked up a 97 F935 this spring, with the 72" deck. I mow 9 acres with a LOT of trees to negotiate around but it has nearly cut in half the mowing time I was doing with a power king tractor with a 60" deck. Manuvers great, cuts great, mows fast (10.6 mph if you ground will let you), overall I am pleased. I got mine from a dealer with 700 hrs on it and it was very well maintained. I changed all the filters/fluids anyway, just so I know what was going on and to confirm the condition. I gave $9000 for it, looking back I could have done a little better, but I am still pleased with it. I will say the 72" deck will be a bit big for 3 acres. If you think you will be getting more property or you want to get done in an hour or less, then go for it! I mow my 9 acres in 4 hours with having to deal with the trees. Another thing to consider is the size/weight of the machine. In one mowing alone I got stuck 10 times in places I have never even come close to getting stuck with the power king! A lot has to do with the wet spring/early summer we are having here in Ohio! It got so bad I bought a set of ag tires for it, havent been stuck since but it does turf a little when you do a 360 around the trees. I will put the turf tires back on as soon as I get another set of rims. I am also looking for a blower for it, picked up a Curtis cab at an auction for $75 that was in great shape, now I need a blower so I can use it! Another thing about the F series tractors, they are not as "handy" as a traditional tractor, main purpose is mowing and they do that great!

Chris, welcome to the forum; I noticed post #1! Nice piece of iron you have there. I have similar traction problem with my F525 which is much smaller. It has a weight shift foot lever that shifts 60% of the mower weight to the drive wheels when pushed and does help out alot when slipping on hills and slopes. Doesn't the F935 have a similar device? Of are you getting stuff sinking in mud and soft ground? I cut about 4 acres with the F525 and can get it all done in about 2 1/2 hours. It can really cut down on the time it takes to cut the lawn. It used to take me over 4 hours with the Cub 154 Loboy with a 60" mmm. I love how manueverable they are.

Chief, thanks for the warm welcome! Here in central Ohio it was a mess with the rain. It didnt get a chance to dry out at all. The F935 does have the weight transfer and the differential lock. Mowing along and as soon as I notice it is bogging down and sinking, I raise slightly on the deck, hit the diff lock and push the forward pedal as fast as it will go! If I catch it soon enough, I can avoid hanging it up, many times this spring, no luck! Usually the power king with loader, 450lbs wheel weights and 300 lbs on the 3 point will pull it out. Once, needed to get the 99 ford power stroke 4x4 dually to get it out! I think this year it is over with. In addition to the ag tires (23x 10.50x 12) I made up as set of dual wheel adapters and have another set of 23x 8.50x 12's to spread out the weight. Not sure what it will do when turning but it should help on not getting it stuck!

Just wanted to jump in here and agree with the rain in Ohio this year. My 935 has a new set of Carlise super turf or something to that effect. These are a really hopped up set of truf tires that local lawn services use... they aren't as agressive as the ag and better than the standard turf. Looks almost like ATV tires but these are 4ply and made for lawn mowers...... I sure like to run into a nice snowblower soon!!!
