JD GT225 tranny replacement

My GT225 will not move. belt turns wheels don't. Hope this is the tranny cause I bought a used one to replace it. The first thing I think I need to do is remove steering wheel and knob and remove two rear bolts to enable removal of the body. Anyone know what to do from there?

Have a JD Technical Service Manual for this model and year? Without it, you are on track by the disconnection of all near it. The rear of the body typically comes off easier than it looks.

Got the body off, the old tranny out and the new tranny in, but somewhere on the floor appeared two (approx 1/4") shims. Main mounting bolts on one side are longer than the other. Is it possible both these shims go on same side? Any suggestions. I do not have a manual, but should have gotten one before starting this project.

Thanks for responding. I have measured the thickness of the old tranny at the mounting pad and found that the new one was 1/2" different. the same thickness as the shims. When i left the shims out everthing lined up correctly.

For the people who might be experiencing "transmission failire" My problem was that the nut holdong the splined drive pulley had loosened, stripping the splines on the pulley. Probably could have gotten a new pulley and not put the "new" tranny in, but was not sure about the splines on the shaft.
