Does anyone know if JD's high volume bucket for the 460FEL is also a HD bucket? How much bigger is the high volume bucket over the HD bucket and is it worth the extra$?

The high volume bucket is not a HD bucket. John Deere suggests that only lightweight material such as snow and sawdust be used in their bucket. The high volume bucket is 15 cu. ft. and the standard bucket is 10.7 cu. ft. I hope this helps you.

I have a JD hi-volume bucket on my 460 FEL. It is not very HD at ALL. It bent the first time I used it moving old 55 gallon drums around. I did turn it into a HD bucket by welding extra 1/2" plate to the top and leading edge of the top bucket and welding on 3 lift hooks. I also added 2" x 2" x 1/4" w/t steel angle to the back of the bucket at the loader arm attachmnet bracket to re-enforce it. I added 1/4" x 3" strips to the side of the bucket to help keep it from deforming when using the bucket to backscrape.

The JD HD bucket was too small for my needs but my new HD hi-volume bucket is perfect for the job. I attached a photo to show the extra material added to make it HD.

Thanks Steve. Did you add anything to the bottom or lower back of the bucket? How do you think your modifications or the high volume bucket itself would stand up to carrying field stone or using it to dig up small stumps, assuming a toothbar was attached? Is that a HD cutting edge that came with the bucket or did you add that too?

Steve - did mostly the same thing to mine - bent the be-jeepers out of it moving rocks - thought that I had ruined it - dealer acutually had welding done to satisfy me - think I will add the angles on the back side same as yours - maybe then it will hold up - just not very strong as originally delivered.
