Mahindra 3540
I just got off the phone with the Mahindra salesman that sold me my 3540 hydrostat. He said that it would be fine if I chose to use JD hygaurd hydraulic oil in my tractor since there is a dealer less than 10 miles away and he is 55 miles from me.I bought a 5 gal container of it in order to top off the trans whitch was on the low side mark and plan to change the oil and filter at 50 hrs using the hygaurd.Anyone think that I should not do this and if so why?

As long as the hyguard meets/exceeds specs, you are fine.

I use JD oil in everything. It is pricey but I once stumbled upon some show on satalite tv, just about JD oil. I believe they are heavily invested and commited to oil quality and performance and don't just buy oil and put their name on it. Maybe I just bought the whole dog and poney show! But do you really want to take a chance?

I do use the Low Viscosity oil however.

Equipment manufacturers do not cut corners when choosing oil suppliers and developing oil spec's. HyGard is a very good oil, and I sell other very good oils that compete with it. If the viscosity profile and additive package fits Mahindra needs, Hyard will be an excellent choice.

Esso Petroleum Canada is the supplier.

For Canada as well as the US or just Canada? Does Esso deliver the mixed and packaged product or just the basic bulk product?

Warren Petroleum Co. is a nationwide distributor for petroleum products. Many of the common types of lubricants are either labeled as being from them or are probably from them when somebody only specs their store as reference on the container......produced for, sold by, marketed by, XYZ company kalamazoo BFE, especially if the back of the container has about 50 specs that it meets. I use 2 specs that are usually on any container of hyd-tranny type fluids for my fluid selections: Jd J303 for plain tranny hyd (my '60's vintage Fords) and D J20C for modern equip with all the wet brakes, hydros and all the fancy stuff like my Bransons.
