JD LA140 No Head Lights

Bought a new LA140 in Aug 2007. Dealer showed me how to activate the head lights when I got it but never used them. I was using the mower late the other night so I tried to turn them on...nothing. I've looked at it and found no obvious problems.

Any ideas?

Don't your headlights just work off your ignition switch? The first position cw from OFF is headlights/ignition and the 2nd cw position is ignition only. Fully cw is the start position. I would check the switch position, then check the connector that attaches to the lights near the hood pivot point. If your hood has ever been removed, the connector may not have been reconnected.

Typically, there is no dedicated fuse for the headlights, so it is either a bad ignition switch, broken wire, loose connector, or loose headlights or burned out headlights. Since you've never used your headlights, I doubt they are burned out. Also, since your mower is relatively new, I'd also doubt the bulbs are loose or damaged. Probably a loose connector or bad/dirty contacts in your ignition switch.

I agree with Jinman, and the very first thing I would check is the connecter at the hood pivits location. I bet since the mower is brand new the connecter is either unpluged or not push togather far enough to make the contact. They have a snap lock on the connection so make sure it is snapped shut and locked.

I'll take a look at the switch. It's used/stored at a recreational property so it's not here at the house.
