Seems I have a defective alternator on my 2006 tractor. Installed new battery Jan/15. Tractor runs for an hour or so, then battery has to be recharged. Can anyone tell me where and how do I access the hidden alternator? Would greatly appreciate some help here.

:welcome: to TBN

Your answer will likely be forthcoming soon. I don't have that model on my CD service tech manual.
If you might be doing your own maintenance and fixing, I'd suggest getting that manual. Is a life saver, IMO.

Have you ruled out the voltage regulator as the problem? If the voltage regulator is not working, the engine cannot charge the battery. If you haven't checked the voltage regulator, you need to do that first.

Yes, voltage regulator has been replaced.

has anybody put a voltmeter on the leads coming out of the stator ?
there isn't an alternator unless someone added the auxiliary alternator
for a cab with light/heat/wiper etc.

the stator is under the flywheel on the engine..

Find the wires coming from the stator. A voltage meter set to read AC should read somewhere in the 27 volt range. The "Regulator" is actually a rectifier an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC), which periodically reverses direction, to direct current (DC)

One way to test the stator is locate the wires coming from the stator and attached to the rectifier. Start the engine and probe the wires where they are attached to the rectifier you should receive AC voltage in the 27 volt range. On the outlet side of the rectifier (going to battery)you should receive 13-14 volts DC. (Don't forget to keep changing the meter from AC/DC or DC/AC when testing.)

Now that you have confirmed that my tractor has a stator, what problems would I have in installing an alternator? Wouldn't this avoid having to remove flywheel?

Would you recommend installing an alternator to avoid removal of the flywheel? Thanks for assistance.

we still think you should test for voltage coming from the stator, as Gator6x4 said , did you
test for voltage coming out of the stator yet?

OK, will do that. Guess I jumped the gun.....should have contacted you folks, first, before ordering a new alternator. It's currently enroute from Minneapolis.
