Here's an update.
A guy who had been bushhogging for the widow brought a diesel mechanic over. They concluded that it was the little pump that wasn't putting up enough pressure. So, the widow left me a message that she was going out to get one and was I available to put it on.
She called me when she got back. I went over and put it on.
Same symptoms. Started immediately. Ran a while at speed and then went down to idle. Let sit a bit. Restarted, revved up and very soon wouldn't rev. Eventually cuts out completely.
The dealer said they'd pick it up and have a tech look at it for a couple hours. Be about $200.
The neighbor in between has the modern version of her tractor with the same equipment. She wanted me to get the pump on it so some deer hunter wannabes could use it to spread gravel. The neighbor in between has the same equipment: FEL, bushhog, back blade on his 4310.
