JD LT180 Mower Belt

Hey,
I got this LT180 mower used and it's has a 48" mower deck. My problem is when I disengage the PTO the belt always comes off the spindles. I've tryed a new mower belt and made sure my routing was correct. Have any of you guys had any experience with this model or problem?

No experience with that particular mower, but I've never had the belt come off on anything I've ever owned. I suggest taking it to a JD dealer, or asking one for opinions/advice. There is definitly something wrong with the unit, but I don't know what.

I have an LT 180 with a 42" deck. Never had a problem with the belt. Only have about 45 hours though.

I've had the deck off twice. It has 2 latch pins in the rear, 1 pin with R-clip to hook up the linkage. Could you be missing some type of Guard or Guide which is supposed to keep the belt on?

If you log into deere.com and go to deere parts, (you'll have to register) you can look at an exploded diagram for your belt and pulleys. It looks like 1 of the idler pulleys is suppossed to have a guide on it.

My deck is not the mulching "Freedom 42" but the regular 42". I bought it so I could utilize the rear bagger attachment which works really good when it is dry. It will leave a strip of uncut grass if the blades are dull and the grass is tall.

I'd bet its a problem with the idler pulley. It should be spring loaded. Is the spring missing?
