JD dealer has a 2005 LX280 with a 48" deck and 45 hours on it for $3100. I can get a new Cub Cadet SLT1550 from Home Depot for $2000. The JD has only 18 hp v. 25 for the cc. Is the JD worth the extra $1100?

I will be using the tractor to mow a 1.5 acre lot, tow a utility trailer and snowblow.

I've been looking for a new mower to replace my old one. The first two that I looked at and test drove were the LX280 and SLT1550. Having tried both I would say the LX280 is far better and worth the extra.

Why do you say the LX is that much better then the SLT? Where was the Cub deficient that would warrant spending over $1k more for a used machine? I am just curious as I know the specs on the Cub but have not looked at the JD. We did just buy a GT1554 from TSC about 30 minutes ago. It wasn't quite what I wanted but it will easily do the job and was priced right.

I've been using a similar machine to these two for the past 14yrs, I just found the JD seemed to be a little better built and more comfortable to ride on. If I was just mowing in the region of 1.5 acres then the JD would have been the machine for me.
BTW with 45 hrs the JD is technically a second hand machine, but in my opinion it really should have no real wear and tear with that sort of time.
By looking at your profile I would say you know your machinery and will most probably be happy with your purchase.
