I'm working on a John Deere MT with a frozen clutch. I have tried driving with a load behind it, and running down the road in 3rd applying the brakes with the clutch petal pushed in and it hasn't broke free yet. Before I split it I am curious what the bolt on each side of the clutch housing towards the back are for(part 15 in the parts diagram) The parts diagram just says 3/4" x 2" bolt. I'm wondering if I remove them can you see the clutch or are they holding something inside.

Memory may be slipping, but believe those bolts are for mounting accessories to the housing..

Don't still have my jd 420, but believe I used those bolts for a snow plow frame.

Remove them and have a look..

I went over today to get the tractor and bring it back to my house to work on. Started it in gear heading downhill, it went a couple feet then started rolling faster the clutch broke free and the pedal was tied down. Maybe driving it around a few days and the warming and cooling of everything helped. Drove it around the yard a little bit and everything seems good.

You might want t purposely slip the clutch a little bit to polish any remaining rust on the flywheel and pressure plate. The heat build up in the disk can help dry out any moisture in it also.
