Does anyone know of a reliable mail order supply house that sells JD parts such as filters, oil and other maintenance items?

I think they are all called John Deere Dealers. Are you thinking of cutting out the dealers and getting the parts cheaper?

Have you actually checked some of these prices with your local John Deere dealer...?

I found in most cases... they are cheaper than many third party sources... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Investigate... and you'll be in for a pleasant surprise...

I have to agree with John, I did the same thing and shopped around and found John Deere the best deal. Plus they meet manufacturers specifications and I know what I am buying. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Yah,
Went to my John Deere dealer today to order a new front grill for my 790. Was doing a job yesterday (between rainfalls) tearing out a old field fence with the FEL when my 790 got tangled up with a metal fence post. Well, needless to say, the fence post won when it dodged the FEL bucket and slayed the front grill of my tractor. Went to the dealer and it will cost me $171.00 to get a new one. Don't know which hurt worse, poking a hole in my grill or buying a new one. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Joe,
I sure hope that included tax & all!! I am thinking of welding a piece of expanded metal on the frame for the FEL. This should stop these little incidences on the front of my tractor grill. It already had a dent in it from a "mexican jumping rock" that somehow managed to hop over the bucket and kiss the grill this past winter. Deere should put this piece of expanded metal on in their original design. Except for the fact that they would not sell as many parts later on. The part should be in by next week. I have a bunch of bush hogging to do and can't do it until I get the grill back on.

Deere makes an armor kit for their 4x00 and 4x10 series tractors. I don't know if there is a kit for the 790 or not. Sounds like you need something to take the hits on your front end. A pic of the expanded metal would be nice to have posted.

I saw a nice pic on TBN of a grille guard someone had made for their Kubota. I don't know if a search will bring it up for you or not be it'd be worth a try. It was a really nice piece very nicely done, too. I think it's just what you're looking to make for yours.
