JD service intervals

   / JD service intervals #11
I'm not sure about your manual but for my JD's it states either hours on the tractor or hours with regard to time. It specifically states to use the break-in oil for the first 100 hours and to change after that. Then it depends on which tractor but it is either for x number of hours or a specific time. For instance on my oil it is every 100 hours or 6 months. My transmission is every 400 hours or every 2 years. On my 6415 everything is changed initially at 100 hours. It specifically states to use break-in oil for the first 100 hours, same on my 4600.

Changing every 25-30 hours is way overkill and no reason for it really. Shoot I would be changing oil every week and sometimes every weekend.

It is a good idea to change your hydraulic oil and front axle oil if you have mfwd every year. Most research has shown that there is alot of condensation in tractors and oil tests will show water in the oil above tolerances. This is especially true of tractors taht sit over the winter alot.

As far as changing the transmission oil that has changed alot. On the older tractors and vehicles it used to be that the filters were inside the transmissions. When you took the plate and such off you would get alot of dirt in the case if you weren't careful and the new filter likely had dirt in it as well when you put it in. Now with the new tractors you just drain the oil and change the filter on the outside. Little contamination now.
