JD vs Ford Hydraulic Pressure Question

I just bought a JD 750. My dad has a Ford 1320. The stats are as follows:


JD 750 - 20hp - weight 1900 lbs - wheelbase 61 inches


Ford 1320 - 20hp - weight 2,400 lbs - wheelbase 63 inches



Question:


Why is the three point hitch on the Ford rated to lift 1,635 lbs and the JD only rated to lift 815 lbs???


I can understand the JD being rated a little less but a 50% difference is astonishing.


What gives? Any facts, hunches or just plain old conjecture would be most appreciated.

There are two commonly used specifications for lift capacity. At the lift link ends and 24" behind the lift link ends. Perhaps apples and oranges are being compared. Additionally, the X50 series Deere compacts were at the bottom of the compact tractor barrel in terms of hydraulic capacity.

Deere's numbers tend to be pretty conservative; it's quite possible that Ford just uses a more aggressive calculation. Another possibility is that the lower weight and narrower wheelbase made Deere reduce the max recommended lift numbers for safety reasons.

Of course if Ford has a higher hydraulic pressure rating as a selling point, or designed a gear system to increase 3PH lift capabilities this is also a possibility.

Measuring the lift capicity at different points on the lift arms would DEFINATELY explain the huge difference.


Saying that the x50 series of JD was at the bottom of the bucket on lift capacity is a interesting idea so I checked the stats on a JD 790 and it is rated at 815 lbs just like the 750. That tends to point back towards the two manufacturers using different places to "measure" lift capacity.


Just goes to show that you've gotta take those "stats" and "capacities" with a grain of salt.
