I am considering replacing my JD LX178 w/snow blower with an X310 and its 44" snow blower. But I am concerned with its physical length (and max. width) of this combination and still being able to back into my garage with my car still in the garage. I can do it just fine with the present combination. Does anyone own this X310 and snowblower (or any 300 series) who can tell me the overall mounted length of the tractor/snowblower?

Thank you, yod67. 8' is only 7 inches longer than my present set-up (w/o weights that I don't have). I should have no problem then. I have fun in the winter clearing my neighbors' drives on the cup-de-sac and as I get older the manual arm lift of my 42" blower is something I'd rather not deal with. Thanks so much!

Mikel,

How did that LX178 hold up for you with that snowblower? How long of driveways/any hills? I am looking at an LX188 and have toyed with the thought of getting a blower for it. My drive is about 4 car lengths, with a slight hill. We avg about 60-80 inches a year, although this year we are at over 120 inches already.

It has held up very well. I've had it now for 16 years and last year I replaced the front tires that were about bare. My property is close to ¾ acres with a large u-shaped drive of an equivalent length of 260 feet. No major slope for the driveway. The backyard (towards the community lake has a 16 foot rise from the lake to the front of the house. This is no problem for the LX178 at all. My lot is on a cuildesaq (wrong spelling I know) with a lot of good neighbors so besides my driveway I clear snow from 4 to 6 others as well. A couple of them have quite steep drives. (I put on the pants of a rain suit so I don't get wet from melting snow.) I have to use chains. It would help to have added weight as I only weigh about 170#. I don't have nearly as much snowfall as you do so my extra driveway clearance probably makes up for the amount of your snowfall. I do wear out the skids fairly frequently (every two years or so). My biggest difficulty is breaking the drive belt for the snow blower and for whatever reason the auger shear pin has never sheared. Overall I don't see the snow blower putting any greater effort/stress on the tractor than grass cutting. Mine is a water cooled engine and the engine continues to run just fine.

Thanks for the info. I notice these blowers are single stage, any problems slinging the snow?

Yes, if it is wet. With wet snow the chute can clog up and you have to stop and dig it out. I did come up, by luck, to find a good tool for this. I had a long handled hoe the the hoe blade had broken off leaving a rather heavy duty hook at the working end. So when working I place the hook over the front top edge of the blower and lay the handle back along the right side of the tractor resting between the forward foot control and the right side of the tractor. It stays in place nicely and I don't have to walk back to the garage every time the chute gets clogged.
