JD X475
For a couple of months now my x475 runs for about 2 minutes after I turn the switch off. It happens even when engine is cool. I assume its just a bad switch but I don't want to pay $100 for a new switch and find its something else. Anybody had a similar problem?

HI RJP and welcome to TBN
I believe your ignition switch is tied into the control board for the tractor, so when you
change 1 you change both, but i'm not 100% sure being the carb X475 instead
of the injected X585.
i have not seen that condition though, but it makes sense it's in that circuit.

Maybe one of the relays sticking on that board, unless you have some loose connections somehow in the ground circuit.
I wish JD would make these relays replaceable.

If you bought a technical manual it should show a procedure to check this circuit, with wiring diagrams.

Hope I'm not posting this twice. Still learning. I have no other electrical problems and machine runs fine. So I guess I'll change switch and board. One other thought though, problem started right after I had machine servicd by an experienced JD mechanic. Anything he could have done. Btw, changing the board is breeze but getting new switch up under dash looks like a bear. Anybody done it. Thanks for your input.

Go see HIM and tell him be screwed something up...:cool2:
His response will be enlightening.

When you shut it off tap on that board with the butt end of a rubber handled screwdriver or something insulated; just to see if it stops when you tap those relays. Or move some wires around to see if anything is loose.

What kind of service did he do? Was he in the electrical at all?
If he had the battery off make sure he did not leave a ground wire loose someplace.

I had same problem on my 595X. \turned out after I replaced the ign switch and board twice it was a shorted wire inside a loom in the engine compartment. The large harness running up against the injector tube. This happened last year and so far so good. I also isolated the harness and secured it so no more abrasions.

Wow. You've given me a lot to check. The service I had done was a std. JD service. I think the guy had the body off which means he disconnected various electrics. I spoke with the mechanic who thought it could be the "time delay" module. I'll look around for a loose ground as well. I'll hold up on replacing the switch. Mechanic will be back in a couple of weeks.

hI fOLKS, Sorry for the delay in giving you all the solution to this ignition problem. My travel schedule my mechanic's schedule, etc. I any event, the problem was a bad coil. There are 2 coils on the x475 and 1 was bad and that cylinder continued to run with switch off. The coil either didn't open or close with the switch.. Once he diagnosed problem I could shut the engine down by removing plug wire. He's replaced the coil and it's running fine. Thanks for all the suggestions.
