Mowing JD x485 Mower Deck

Owned my x485 for almost 5 years now. Love the machine. The only nuisance is that grass keeps collecting on the upper portion of the mower deck around the belt/pulleys. I thought that I had read somewhere that there was a JD kit that added a lip to the front section of the mower deck to keep grass from blowing out of the front. Has anyone else experienced this??

I had an X485 for about 5 yrs before trading for a 3720. The grass did collect on top of the deck but that didn't bother me as much as constantly having to unplug the radiator and screen. I don't remember any recall/notice of a kit as you described. JD did send out a bulletin about frequently cleaning the radiator and screen to prevent overheating issues.

I have read what you are talking about on here. Seems someone added it to a 2305 with the same deck. I just took the covers off the belt pulleys on my deck. JC

You're referring to the leaf mulching kit I think. I just took my covers off like RollTideRam did.

I purchased the leaf bagging anti-blowout kit for my 62C deck, and i would not recommend it. First let me say I take all of the shelds off pulleys so that debris doesn't collect in there and allow the pulleys and bearings to overheat. Second, show me one lawn mower that doesn't have grass all over it and the deck. Third, I wasn't impressed nor did I notice any real improvement with the kit installed. What I did notice was that it created new spaces under the deck for debris to accumulate and allowed to rot away along with the metal of the deck. These spaces are hard to access to remove the debris. So the baffles were removed. And regarding the X series radiator screens plugging, I think it is one of the best designs out there. You can see if it is getting plugged and you just wipe it off. At least the hot engine air is being blown away from you.
