Hi Guys

Got a glow plug problem I hope someone might be able to help me with. My X495 mower has been very hard to start the last couple times I have used it and pumps out white smoke when attemping to start it.

I have read on the net where these 3 cyl Yanmar engines rely on the glow plug system to start reguardless of the outside temps. When I turn the start switch to the on position I get the glow plug light and than after about 20 sec it will go out so this part of the system seems to be working correctly. The problem is when the light is on I'm getting 0 volts to the glow plugs.

I came across a 455 Glow Plug schematic that would lead me to belive that when I turn the key switch to the on position this sends power to the glow plug timer relay which in turn sends power to the glow plug light and the glow plug relay. Since the light side of this seems to be working I'm think I have a bad glow plug relay but I really don't want ot start throwing parts at it until I can propertly troubleshoot this system.

Does anyone have a Glow Plug schematic for the X495 or can you recommend the repair manuals I wouls need to buy that would have a good wiring diagram in it. The only thing I have been able to locate is a eBay listing for a "John Deere Tech Service Technical Manual X495 and X595 - TM2024" that the guy is asking $50 for.

Thanks, sorry this was so wordy.

I have an x748 repair manual, I will take a look at the schematic and get back to you.

Well Here is the best I can do, The good news is that it is a simple circuit. The bad news is that it may not be the same on your tractor. It should give you the "spirit" of the circuit at least. Looks like the yellow wire #506 comes off the display unit at J3-C, and goes right to the coil of the relay....So you should be getting 12V there on terminal 86 of the relay...which should pull it in. terminal 87 and 30 should "make" at that point, energizing the glow plugs. Note that there is a fuse link,S-3.
Good luck

Update I found a X495 manual TM2024 on the internet and downloaded that for $24.00 and was able to troubleshoot this problem down to the K1 Preheat Relay being bad.

Looks like P/N AM123716 for $12.94 at the JD store, will run by there at lunch today.

Just curious, is the circuit the same as in my X748 manual?

The X495 was different than the X748 and the K1 relay did not fix the problem. I assumed I had a good ground going to the K1 Relay but that was not the case and the wire (760 Blu) was good. Seems that the K1 Relay ground is provided through the A1 Diesel Control Module which needs 12V from the K9 Pull-In Relay via the 655 Pink wire. My whole problem was a broke wire (277 Red/Blk) on pin #30 at the K9 Relay.

Fixed that and the system works as required. The X748 circuit is a much cleaner system. I tried to attache a .pdf file but guess I can't do that.

Glad you got it fixed.
