JD X540 PTO off. Nothing. After I hit garden hose..

Well I screwed up. I was mowing leaves out of the yard, pretty deep. When I hit a buried garden hose. I knew it was there, but thought I would clear it. I am an idiot.
The hose got cut up and one piece tangled. I have removed hose pieces and the blades turn fine. Belts seem fine.
Problem is when I pull up the PTO lever,, nothing. No click, no anything. Is there a reset? :laughing: I do not know this is my first issue with this new to me X540.
Any help appreciated.

I guess first things that I would check is the harness as it travels from the frame to the clutch, the brake switch and at the reverse sensing switch. The PTO won't light if the tractor senses these.

Talked to the local JD dealer this morning. Apparently there is a fuse fir the PTO on the x540 also. That’ll be my first place to look.

Have you checked to make sure that the drive belt and the blade belt are both in the proper location?

A piece of hose flopping around can indeed pull the clutch wire off of the clutch but unless something shorted out, the fuse should be OK, but I guess you will find out.

There will be a $2 fix or a $450 fix. No idea what is in store for me. Haha! Hope to be there Friday. (Deer opener is Saturday)

Well, all the fuses are fine. The wiring to the PTO is fine. I couldn’t find anything wrong. So I hauled it to the JD dealer in Palmyra. Hopefully they can find out what’s wrong without breaking the bank. Maybe the PTO just died..
