Hey guys. I've been mowing my 3/4 acre residential lawn with an LX277 AWS for the last 13 years. 48c deck with mulch kit. It's been a great machine and mows really well. I have the itch to upgrade.

Any reason to shy away for an X754 for residential use? It has 1,150 hours which I know is nothing for a diesel but would you be concerned about that many hours on the chassis, drive train, etc? The seller will swap out the 60" drive over deck for the 54" drive over deck off a 2016 700 series. So the deck would have 865 hours.

Is the diesel fairly quiet for residential use?

My lawn is fairly smooth and not big slopes. Will the 54" drive over deck mow as well as my 48c (assuming I put a mulch kit on the 54")?

Thanks for any help.

I've got an X750 with the diesel, and it is not overly loud IMO. Not any louder than a gas engine.

I've got the 60" deck, so I really can't answer your other question. As far as the hours go, I guess to me it would all depend on the price, and what I thought of the machine after looking it over.

Thanks for the info on the noise. Price is $6,500 out the door.

I have the 2 cyl gas 425 and X485 and they are louder than my 455 3 cyl diesel. Suspect you would experience the same..
The diesel is much smoother to listen to, than the gas.

There's no chance that the X7xx will mow as well as your LX277. I mow with the X730 and an older 345. The 345 is the best mower I've ever owned. It continues to be my favorite as far as quality of cut. The 345 has a 54" deck; my X730 has a 62" deck. I've done everything that I can think of including speeding up that 62" deck to get it to mow as nicely as the 345. Bottom line for me is: the X730 quality of cut is acceptable but no where near a snice as the 345's quality of cut. It's not as simple as just hanging a 54" deck on the X730; It has something to do with basic size and width of the X7xx tractors.

If you're **** about quality of cut, don't be trying to get an X7xx anything to give you a quality cut. My $0.02 worth ----------------

I second the comment by bruceatlam, as my X485 with the 54C deck is no where near the 54" decks on my 425 and 455 for cut quality.

Deere apparently made a cosmetic design change when the X's came out and the flow under the deck changed (has more depth to look more robust, I guess). I leave that 54C deck off the X485 as not a good cut.

Thanks for all the good info guys. I'm either going to stick with my LX277 or maybe a Zero Turn. The Spartan RZ HD 48" has caught my attention.

I had a x534(5 years) with a 48 inch Edge deck, with the mulching kit, never was impressed with the cut.
Bought a x754 with a 56 inch High Capacity deck with the mulch kit also, night and day difference hands down, mowing just got fun again.
