Tractor
JD318, Power-Trac PT425 with scuffed-up green paint.
I am needing to replace my newly restored JD318 - which I really like, but it is too small for my property, and I definitely need the 4wd for the hilly parts of the property. How does the 2210 stack up?

I am quite concerned about the size, as Deere's website shows a turning radius of 7.5 ft (compared to around 26 inches for 332/318). The pics on the Deere site seem to imply to me that the tractor is quite large compared to my old 318 as well. What's your take? How would you compare the two? Also, has anyone actually done a side-by-side comparison with the X595? What would you guys say are the main differences?

Finally, anyone care to weigh in on comparing the Kubota BX2200 to the JD2210? How do the two compare in size, maneuverability, useability?

Thanks, guys -

Rob

I have a 2210 and my friend has a x595. There is not a huge difference in overall size. The x595 had a 3pt. hitch and rear PTO. The deciding factors for me was FEL lifting capacity, better 3pt hitch setup (my friend had to turn the pins around on his attachments for it to work with his 3pt. hitch), and the overall look of a "tractor" instead of a garden tractor. Now my friend, after playing with my loader, is going to trade up to the 2210. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi, Smartguyz.

The turning radius is a different measurement than the "uncut circle" mowing measurement. With a 62" deck on my 2210, the radius of the uncut circle is probably within a couple inches of the uncut radius of your 318. The turning radius spec is the outside turning radius of the front wheels. It means you need about 15 feet in which to do a complete circle with a 2210. I'm sure your 318 has a slightly tighter turning radius (easy to measure on pavement with wet tires), but the uncut mowing circle is the critical measurement if you are wondering how it will trim around your landscaping. As you might guess, the uncut circle gets bigger as your deck width gets smaller and/or turning radius increases.

Having said all that, I know a 2210 owner who owned a X585 and he is very clear in stating that the handling was better (less tractor-like) on the X series. However, the true tractor features of the 2210 far outweigh a stiffer ride. I traded a JD445 for my 2210. My 445 was an incredible mowing machine--fast, compfortable, and nimble. My 2210 is close, but I am really capable of a lot more now.

Bottom line: Let each model run under your britches for awhile. You'll know for sure, then. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have mowed in the past with a 322/50 which is very similar to your 318. Now I have a 335/54 and a 2210/62. I am amazed at the turning ability of the 2210 when mowing and can move in close quarters with it just about as well as the 335. The extra deck width lets me get close to trees and I really don't feel like I have lost anything. I agree the X is a little more cushy but like the capacity/capability of the 2210.

Try out both - best way to decide!

I notice everyone talking about the 2210 a lot lately, but don't forget the JD 4010. This tractor has a lot more to offer then the 2210 and is priced quite close because of the JD discounts. My dealer showed me it has turning brakes, cruise control, bigger tires, an oil cooler instead of fan, a full blown cat 1 hitch instead of "limited", folding ROPs, more ground clearance, and more lifting capacity in the FEL (800 vs. 550) and 3pt. hitch. I think this is going to be the model for me because it seems as though the 2210 is hard to find and the 4010 is not. The 2210 is great but you might want to ask your local dealer about the 4010...it has more features for just about the same money. I know it has less horse power but it does more work where it counts.

TX16,

You're right about the 4010. The two tractor's (4010 & 2210) while being similar in many ways, really are designed to excel in different ways.

The 2210 (my opinion) is better suited for the person doing mainly mowing, but who wants to have a loader and be able to use some 3 point equipment. I've heard the 62 inch deck provides a great cut. This machine will also put more HP to the PTO which may help with a bush hog.

The 4010 does a nice job of mowing, but has higher capacities in the areas you mentioned. I have been very happy with my 4010. I pull a 5 foot boxblade and run a 50 inch tiller. No lack of power. Interestingly enough, the area where I have maxed out the tractor is the FEL--a category where the 4010 is rated higher than the 2210.

If your planning on a lot of mixed use (mowing, fel, boxblade, etc.), I think you will be very happy with the 4010.

Good Luck

Bob

I also looked at the 4010. My dealer told me a 54" mmm was about all you wanted on this tractor, which I wanted the mmm. The 60" mmm for this tractor is the old style, not like the 62C on the 2210. I picked up my 2210 yesterday. The ballast box did not make it in yet, but, had to play anyway. It seemed to do just fine, was a little light on the rear with a bucket full of dirt. I mowed about an acre also, seemed to mow excellent. I also have a 335 with a 48C and I could not tell the difference in the cut.
The dealer also said a 4ft box blade is max on the 2210 with a 5ft on the 4010.
That is what I learned in the 1.6 hours I used it lastnight.

Hambone,

I'll agree with your dealer on the fact that you can only get the old 60 inch deck on the 4010. I will disagree with his statement about the 4010 not handling the 60. In almost a year of mowing with the 54 inch deck, I have yet to encounter grass/weeds that significantly slowed the mower/engine speed. In addition to this mower deck being an option on this machine, there are plenty of TC18 owners mowing with a 60 inch deck.

Just my $.02 based on a year of use with the 4010.
