JD4200 Questions

I ran across a 1999 JD4200/4WD/Hydro w/420 FEL and 920 hours on it. They want $8500 for it. It definitely has been used but appears to have been stored inside and well taken care of. I drove it around the lot and everything appears to work OK.

What do you think about the price and are there any problems associated with this model or series. Are there any things I need to be looking at for potential problems?

Price looks really good. The hours aren't excessive for the year (you're looking at about 150 hours per year usage).

The only thing I've read bad about the 4200 series tractors is that they are not very powerful for the size and original purchase price of the tractor. As an example, the 790 Deere has the same power ratings and costs quite a bit less. This is for a new machine, BTW.

So, depending on your intended use, it sounds like a pretty good deal.

What are your intended uses?

Just a little brush hogging on the things the cattle won't eat and using the FEL to fill out and smooth some hog holes. I'll probably be planting a few food plots for the wildlife. Nothing very intense.

I've a Deere 4300, 1999 with 250 hours on it, and I would expect to just get a bit more than that for trade-in ($9500).
Looks like a pretty good deal, if from a dealer where they will back up anything wrong within reason (to them).

The 4200 is a good tractor. The hours you state are not excessive. Most dealers will service their machines before they sell them, but you would do well to make sure that is has been fully serviced. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
