JD 4300
Hello to all,

I’m new here and have my first question. In your option is a 6ft disk to much for my JD4300?

Thanks in advance,
Jason

Welcome to the forum.
There are 6' heavy disk's and there are 6' tandem and single disk's, and there are 6' lightweight disks, also pull type and 3pt type. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Is there a particular disk you have in mind? And is your 4300 HST?

It's for sure a 'heavy' disk. It's one my grandfather had bought many years ago. I was just wondering if the JD will handle it ok. I would like to start cutting up some food plots pretty sure but do have the money to get the disk I want right now. Just bought a 5' bigbee bush hog, thought I needed it more the then disk right now.

No my JD doesn't have HST. Is that a bad thing or not? I'm sure it's better to have it, but I found this 4300 used and got a pretty good deal.

What type of tires does your 4300 have on it? The type of tires can impact the size disk you pull. I have a 4310 with R4s and when I pull my plow and disc I get some wheel spin that I don't think I would get if I had the Ag tires.

Hook on to it, and let us know how well it pulls it. We'd like to know too. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would think you could pull that disc without too much problem. You may have to go a little slow when you get it worked up. It will actually be an advantage to not have hydro in my opinion. Typically it has been my experience that gear tractors will pull better than hydros. A hydro is great for loader work, mowing, and other jobs but a gear is much better for "farming" type applications. Once you get used to the gear shifting it won't be much of an issue.

I plan on going to pick the disk up Friday or Saturday. I'll let you all know how the JD handles it.

I pull a 10' John Deere KBA disc with mine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm in "A" range and 4 wheel drive on. Does a good job.

Well my JD did handle the disk in low 4wd, but it's just to much disk for me. It's alot 'heavier' then I remember. I think I need to setp down in size.
Now I know this is a millon dollar question, but I need some advise. How much should I ask for the 6ft disk? I a "multi-purpose" brand. I know they sure do not make them like this anymore. Very heavy for a 6ft. I just need to know a price range. Any advise would be great.

Thanks,
JH

Where do you live? Area determines alot on pricing. If you are near Georgia probably worth about $100 or less. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am actualy looking for a used disc - is it a lift type or pull type? What size discs?
