Weird, everything was working just fine.. I did some work without an implement attached, pulling railroad ties with a chain, let it sit for a few hours until the rain stopped, then went out to hook up my rear dirt scoop. Attached the scoop, tried to lift it, and nothing at all happened. Tried everything I could think of, called the JD dealer who suggested making sure front blade wasn't in "float" mode, and I assured him I had tried it in all positions. They are stumped also.. as they say it's the same hydraulic pump for the front blade and the rear lift. They said it may be something "internal".. which to me sounds synonymous with "expensive." /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

They'll send someone out Tuesday.. but in the meantime I would graciously /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif accept any suggestions.

The front blade works just fine.. just as fast and articulate as it's ever been. The rear lift lever *feels* just the same as it always has.. no more or less effort required to move it.

Thanks for any thoughts....

Bob,

Some things to check:

1) Is the valve used to regulate the rate of drop (on the kick panel below the seat) open?

2) Is the power beyond (if so equipped) coupling plugged all the way in.

3) Is the hydraulic fluid level correct?

Thanks Jim.. checked all those things.. except no power beyond.. all a-ok. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Appreciate the hints...

Had a similar problem trying to lift off my BH for the first time this year. I got it off using the stabilizers then forced the arms all the way down. Used the tractor for a while and when I was ready to reinstall the BH, the arms were able to lift it up with no problem /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Bob,

The only other external part of this is the linkage that operates the valve. Make sure that it is connected and that it functions.

For anyone who's interested, the JD guy stopped out today while I was at work. He told my wife that he believed a filter or something had come loose and plugged the hydraulic system in some way. They came back with a trailer and got the tractor.

On the one hand, I'm glad it wasn't something dumb that I overlooked, but on the other I'm hoping it isn't going to cost a fortune to fix.

I wouldn't even know where to begin, so I pretty much have to have them do the work. I'll keep you posted.

I have a 4300 also and I had a recall on mine for the Suction Screen which were coming loose and clogging up the hydraulics. That is probably what they are dealing with. Please advise when you know.

I'll certainly let you know as soon as I know. They believe this is the problem, but they aren't totally certain JD will cover it.

They also believed that they had already applied this fix, but now can find no records of having done so. Bottom line, nobody seems quite sure where I stand. Sigh.

The spool valve will have to be replaced, and is on order.. and at 6pm tonight I'll call them and find out the status of the whole mess.

What would you guys think.. would a model year 2000 JD4300 be covered by Deere under this known defect condition? I'm hoping so, as they said it was an expensive repair. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
If they had done the retrofit for the suction screen problem on the 3pt, they should be able to tell just by looking. When I was reading about the screen problems being posted before, I took my tractor in to have the dealer do the retro. I told him that if they found the screen damaged, I would expect the retro to be performed under warranty (my tractor was within its two year warranty period) but if the screen were still in place I wanted the retro done anyway and would pay for it. Turned out that the screen was dislodged so it was all done under warranty. The retro adds some external piping and the filter is relocated to outside the housing. Had they done this to your tractor previously, it should be readily apparent to their service people.

Thanks, Hoss. I called them with this info, and the guy said he was only going by his computer records as to whether they had done the fix or not. They were waiting to get the new spool valve in. I made sure he understood that it should be visually obvious if the fix had been done. Appreciate your input!

6pm tonight I should, hopefully, have an answer. In the meantime, our yard needs mowing badly. Oh well.. them's the joys of country living, eh? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
