i would like to say that this forum has been very helpful in the past. i have searched but can not find anyone that had a problem with the tach not working and how to troublshoot it. thanks for any help!!

Not working? Like doesn't move at all, or is pegged? Flips back and forth?

Check these four pics from the tech manual. Maybe can check that line from the alternator.
These four go together.
If fluctuating is it possible the rectifier mentioned at the voltage regulator is a problem?

I have the same problem with mine. Mine flips back and forth.

thanks for the info!! i will do some checking today . mine doesn't move at all, stay's on 0. Also, i should have mentioned the alternator does not work either. So the tach works off the alternator?

That is what the schematic shows (working off the alternator).
Seems a working alternator would be priority over a working tach.

Just purchased the tractor yesterday, has 2003 hrs. on it. just a few things that need attention, alternator and tach. it's new to me and got to learn how these things work together. got a good deal on it. thanks again for the help!
