Can someone tell me how many Hp at the PTO for the 5310 (circa 1998) ?

Overall gross weight?

Engine? non turbo JD or Yanmar?

Idea for 5' or 6' Bush Hog?

Would this machine fall into the Utility or Compact tractor class? Is it made for going around the trees or for the straight aways?

Thanks for the Help, David...

I can give ya a little info on it as we used to have a 2001 5310 with cab. The engine is a 63 engine hp TURBO John Deere powertech with 55 PTO horsepower. The motor is designed and built by John Deere. Sorry I don't know the weight but I think it's around 5,000 lbs. It is considered a utility tractor and it's not a compact. It can turn pretty sharp. I think it will turn sharp enough if you are going around trees. It's not compact tractor for sharp turning but it's good in my opinion. It's not that much bigger than a compact once you get used to it. It seems really small after I drive the big ones at work then our stuff. We use it in our orchard. That is what we bought it for. It is a very good machine. Are you looking at one with a cab?

I've got a 2000 5410, Difference is 4 cyl. instead of three without turbo. The 5510 is the same engine only turbo. Larger package than a 5310 but not as large in size as the 5510. Something like 80 hp and 65-8 at the pto. Oh yea, likes the taste of fuel when worked and answers to the name of green tractor.

Wally, Nick and Pat!

That's a whole lotta tractor!

One of the others that I have been keen on is an L4350 in orange. Not as serious a machine as the 5410, but wud likely be a whole lot nimbler because of its size, power at PTO 43Hp.

Any idea of the mid nineties JD's, that fit into this power category?

Thank you, I appreciate the info and help.

In the mid 1990s the only compacts available from Deere were the 70 series gears and the 55 series hydros. The biggest in the two series is the 1070. It has 35 PTO HP. It is identical to the 990. I have had both and both are good machines. The 1070 does have an advantage because of the fully syncomesh transmission rather than the 990's collar shift. I know that is a little smaller than you wanted but I just thought I would pass you the info. Your only other option from Deere would be to go with an older 4000 series like a 4600 or 4700. Those are right in your PTO range. They would be a 1999. I think that is the first year for this series as the 70 series went until 1998. You might be able to find a JD 5300 or so with cab for a good price. They look similar to the 5310 but a more square hood. Good luck on your search!
