The hydraulic oil is foaming up instantly in the sump (rear end housing), and there is a gurgling sound listening down the fill tube. The tractor has fresh oil and new filter and I cleaned the inlet filter. I have been told that it is caused by air getting into the suction lines to the pump. I have checked all the connections on the suction side, and it has no apparent oil leaks. I have also been told that it could be the seal on the hydraulic pump drive shaft. The tractor only has 2500 hours. Any suggestions?

Tractor model would help plus this might be better suited for one of the specific brand forums.

Does this also affect the power steering on your 5510? By chance is 3 pt fully raised?

The foamy oil effects all functions, steering-loader-3 point hitch. I leave it sit for 1-2 hours to let the air dissipate and start it up and the sump starts to fill up with foamy oil again. The foamy oil starts even when I do not use any function.I suspect there was moisture in the oil, just purchased this tractor from GRISSOMS IN OK. where the temperture was warmer but its lives at 20 degrees. working on it inside with portable heaters. The new oil shows no signs of moisture, THANKS

When you say inlet filter, do you mean pickup screen/mesh filter located by the PTO shaft? I included a link to the operators manual if you did not have one. I attached a picture of the hydraulic system, if you need it. Since it is an open system it does not surprise me that this happens, when the tractor is running and not in use.

I do believe that what you have been told about getting air in the system is your problem. JD does make a hydraulic pump seal kit. I include a to JD parts, if you do not have it. Does it look like any damage was done to the hydraulic oil cooler, located behind the battery.

What year is the 5510, the reason for the question is there hydraulic filter/manifold early model and later model. My 99 5210 has the early model, will need to know this if you get any replacement parts in that area. I do not know why the change was made, maybe someone else or your JD dealer can

You may want to check out selectmanauls.com for the tech manual $34.95.

Sorry could not be of more help.

Have you checked the suction line for air leaks. Make sure all the fitting are tight
