To Be Determined
I have both locally at the same price and both good dealers. I like the lift weight on the NH better but the name and rep. for JD better. Please all thoughts to help me out! I'm planning to do a little brush clearng, mowing and moving dirt around (3 acres) but also may occasionally rent myself out for a day here and there. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Homeworx01,
Both are good tractors in my opinion and I dont think you could go wrong with either. Normally I would say that you should let the dealer choice sway you but it sounds as though you are happy with both dealers so the decision becomes harder.

When I was going through the same type of decision, it came down to the same thing. I ended up going with JD on based on the financials of the deal. All said and done I think I really wanted to buy the JD all along but, at the outset, the JD made more sense to buy.

I know that the 790 is a real workhorse and incredibly reliable. There are a number of people on TBN can tell you all about how capable the 790 is.

Best of luck.
Mark

Thanks, sounds just like where I'm at! any thoughts on the load capacity? In my heart, JD seems right, but the NH seems a little more updated and stronger. Anyone else?

Hi

A dear family friend in the heavy construction business always swears by this method of decision. Take the price and divide it by the weight.

The better price/pound ratio is the better buy.

Good luck in your decision.

Homeworx01,
When I was looking I was really looking a balanced package. Lift capacity is part of it but there are so many other things. I had a friend mention that I was likely to spend a lot of time in the seat so I should see how everything "fits". Based on that I ended up with the JD. For me, the seat was better, the reach to the steering wheel was better, same with all the levers and pedals.
I am really glad I went that way. In hindsight, I might have gotten a good tractor from someone else but the JD really lays thier machines out well.

Look at them as a "solution" for the needs you have. If you get tired or beat up everytime you use it, then its not a good value.

My 2 cents....

I'm currently trying to decide between JD and NH as well. I've got a NH TC-30 hydro rented for the weekend doing a few odd jobs to determine if it fits my needs. I decided that just spending the time on the tractor at the dealership wasn't enough for me to make my decision. It's costing me a little money, but I want to be satisfied with my purchase for years to come.

So far I'm impressed with the TC-30 and it sure is a solid little tractor. I plan on renting a JD the next time to compare the difference. I'm sure I'll like the JD too...

That's referred to as ergonomics and John Deere has led the way as far back as 1937 when they hired Henry Dreyfuss. Deere was the first tractor manufacturer to really emphasize ergonomics and it has continued to this day.
When I was in the market I considered Blue, Orange, and Green. Deere absolutely had the best ergo's and was a major factor in my decision. The roomy operator station mounted on rubber isolators, controls located where they "felt" right, and a comfortably suspended, multi-adjustable seat stood out above all the others. If Deere is out of the equation, then no one brand stands out as much.

Weight to price- same. both feel great seated, nh a little more room, sounds like most are trending jd. jd dealer only 5min. away. and better financing. Has anyone noticed not enough power with the 790 and wished they chose the tc30? or is a decision on jd gonna make me happy.

The 790 has plenty of power, but the hydraulics aren't up to the TC 30 specs (older (80's) design of the 790...plus I think Deere derates the 790 since it's too competitive against the 4200 tractors).

Of course, lower hydraulics specs are pretty subjective. It may well be the 790's capacities are well within your desired usage of a tractor.

I looked at the TC 30 when I was planning on upgrading from my old 670. My main criteria was adequate PTO HP for a chipper. The only thing I didn't like about the TC 30 (compared to the 790) is the front axle didn't appear as robust.

Of course, I'm somewhat partial to Deere.

Either one should do what you want. Take a test and see which handles the way you like. They are both great tractors.
Now if i can just get one for me........ /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
