JD790 JDL120 JD Gator 6x4
Hello,
I've been aware of this site for about a week now. Purchased and read the book. Ordered a John Deere 790 today. JD790 MFWD DSCV R4 tires, work light; JD70 Loader, 60" Bucket w/hooks, hood guard & level indicator; JD513 rotary cutter. Tires filled and delivered to my location. $15K plus tax. Used JD financing. I think I got a decent price. Without you guys and the archives here, I'm sure I would have paid more. Delivery in about 10 days. Obviously this is a present for myself. I feel like a kid before Christmas. The JD will be taking over for a tired 1950 Ford 8N. Almost forgot, I also got 2 JD hats thrown in the deal.

Sounds great ! I've got the exact same setup... I paid $15k 2 years ago. I'd say you got a great deal!

What do you plan to use your new 790 for ?

Jimbo, I've got the same thing with R1s. Great little tractor. My only regret has been the 513 cutter. It's pretty wimpy (thin metal). Mine is literally beat up from hitting stones etc. If I did it again, I'd spring for the MX-5 cutter. Other than that, you did good and you'll love it. Let us know when you get it and don't forget to register here on the board /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I was considering a JD990, but didn't want to spring the bucks to move up from the 790. I think the 790 will do all that I need. I own a little over 20 acres with my in-laws, mostly wooded, with some river front on the Shenandoah River's North fork. Have a field there about 4-5 acres with another up top of about an acre or two. Tractor will be used to mow, load my small dump, move gravel, mulch etc. I picked the 513 as a cost cutter (pun intended). I heard that the 513 is a little weak, but my 8N and bush hog has taken care of most of the nasty stuff. I also thought the MX5 might be a little heavy with the 790 low lift capability in the rear. I may keep the 8N, since my neighbor borrows it occasionally to mow and I'm a little funny about loaning out cars or equipment, especially New stuff.

Sounds like a good plan. I mow about 7 acres or so with my 790 and do a bit of loader work for all kinds of tasks....

I'm perfectly happy with the 790. The only thing I want to change is adding a tooth bar to the loader bucket. I need a little more bite.

I'm a little jealous though. You're not too far away from your retirement property (Springfield to Front Royal).... I'm a little farther away (Jacksonville Fl. to Central Pa.) .

Have fun!
Henry
