JD855 value?

I'm looking at an 855 for sale with 300 hours on showing on the hour meter, it is equipped with a loader, 60" deck, and powerflow with trailer type grass catcher. It appears as though the hour meter is correct. The dealer says that an employee owned it. The dealer won't budge from the price of $13500.00. The tractor is in decent condition and appears to have sat outdoors on some days, a little surface rust at the base of the grille area. The bucket has some dents in the side (?) of it, and the paint has some scratches around the operator area - fenders, and decking. Everything seems to work well on it. Is this a good value, or are there better deals around? I'm located in the northern plains.

Judging from prices around here, I'd say that's a fair price, not a great price but fair. 300 hours is hardly broken in, so if the machine has been well cared for, you are getting a lot of equipment for the money. I was quoted about the same price on an 855 (with 800 hours) last year, but the machine didn't have a mower deck. Price a comparable 4200-4300 machine with like accessories to see what I'm talking about. It is good that the machine has a mower deck, because finding and installing a mid-PTO and mower deck can be very difficult sometimes, depending on the availability of equipment in your area.

I'd agree, fair price. I see you did not fill out the profile, where in the northern plains are you? I'm in Sioux Falls, and there are some good web sites for local and not to distant dealers around here.

Ed, that sounds about right where it should be. At 300 hours that might start to be on a good deal side. I have been looking at the exact setup now for about 3 years now. I just let a super deal fall through for a 1991 855 with 600 hours 72" deck and loader the owner said it was in outstanding condition for $11000. I waited to long to commit to the 10 hour drive to check it out.

Thanks for the advice guys. I gave the 855 a hard look two more times then made the purchase. I take delivery of it this Friday. It replaces my JD 420 lawn tractor that will go on consignment this spring at my local JD dealer.
