i have recently installed power beyond and then plumbed it to a joystick valve from carter&carter, mounted right above the right fender light with a home fabricated mounting bracket which i taped and bolted to the rops. outlets are plumbed from here back to another homemade bracket at the rear which has 4 quick connects, then onto my tnt cylinders which also came from c&c. quick connects are for easy cylinder removal. all of my hoses are 3/8 and all quick connects are 1/2. all cylinders, valve, brackets are painted matching green. the whole system looks very neat and factory. my concern is after the tractor has been running a while the return line out of the valve seems to be extremely hot. almost too hot to touch. i realize the hydraulic fluid builds up heat after use, but is what im doing with it causing too much heat? im thinking about a temp gauge. what temp would be acceptable? will the 990 tractor hyd handle what im doing? i assume my valve is plumbed & working as open center. how else could the return line be getting hot? are my hose sizes a factor?are there any restrictive orfices in these valves i dont know about? does anyone have any knowledge on my concern? i would hate to burn up my new tractor on account of stupidity. i would appreciate any advice.

Do you have any idea what the flow rate of the valve is spec'ed at? What size are the fittings where in IN an Out hoses hook to?

im not sure of specs on flow rate, i was hoping someone out there might have knowledge of this. all my hard fittings are 3/8 and my quick connects are 1/2 just like the one thats on the factory power beyond hose.

I've got the power beyond kit on my 990, but no external valve (I've got a 5 valve bank but haven't hooked it up yet). With just the loop back hose across the PB ports, I get no additional heat build up at all, so the problem could be that your external valve and/or hoses are too small.

I think the 990 flows about 8 gpm, so you need hoses and valves rated for at least that much continuously. The valve I bought is rated for 9 gpm continuous so I'm hoping it won't cause a problem. I guess time will tell ...

Edit:
I just re-read your post and noticed you are using the same size fittings, etc. as the factory connections, so that doesn't sound like they should be too small. Assuming your valve really is open center, make sure the spools aren't being held partially shifted all the time and that all the connections are to the right places (most if not all valves need the fluid flowing in the right direction through them).
