Oil & Fuel JDD 310A stalling

HELP! I have a JD310A backhoe that I use around my property and it has suddenly started stalling. It will run fine for 3 or 4 minutes and then the RPMs drop and it will shut down. When I restart it it will run for 20 secs and then shut down. This will continue endlessly. If I let it set overnight it will fire right up and then run for 3 or 4 minutes. I put in a new fuel transfer pump and tried a small fuel tank hooked directly to the transfer fuel pump thinking it might be a line blockage between the tank and transfer pump. This did not help. Diesels are a whole new world to me so I welcome any advice. Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving. Ron

What can you tell us about the fuel filters, etc. and when last changed? Age of the fuel? Water in fuel ??

Probably the check valve on top of pump is clogged with debris. Remove item number 17 and check it. It has a clear glass check ball in it and can get debris in it. Cleaning it out or replacing it will probably make it run better, but pump is probably due for rebuild, The debris that clogs the fitting is coming from a deteriorating ring in the pump. Removing the check ball will give you some time before pump rebuild is required.

The fuel filter is new. Fuel is fresh. I had concerns about debris in the small petcock strainer at the fuel tank, but aleviated that concern by installing a small one gallon tank feeding directly to the transfer pump.

Thank you for the recommendation and the fuel line schematic. I will pull that fitting and check for debris. For now I just want to get it into winter storage and will attack the pump rebuild in the Spring. Any recommendations on company to do a rebuild or just take it directly to JD? How much of a problem is it getting the pump in time when removing and reinstalling pump?

Simple test is loosen the two screws on the timing window cover. Pry gasket loose and start engine. If engine continues to run then check for plugged fitting as jd110 stated. This method will allow you to drive unit into storage. Most JD dealers I've seen don't repair inj pumps but sends them out for repair.
