This valve was on the tractor when I bought it from the original owner, exactly what do I have? Single action valve? Two hoses in and two hoses out to the back of the rear fender.

Could I use this for a 3pt mounted log splitter?

Sorry hydraulics are not one of my areas of expertise /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JerryG & MadReferee know more about hydraulics that I ever will, but it looks/sounds like you have the ability to control a single cylinder. The 2 hoses going to the back of the tractor are the directional control for the cylinder (one extends it, the other retracts it). The other 2 hoses go to the hydraulic system and power the valve and return the fluid.

Yes, you could use it to control the ram of a log splitter. You could also use it for a hydraulic dump cart, or the dump function of a cement mixer, or to control a hydraulic toplink (and I strongly recommend you try that if you do an amount of blade or rake work).

Bob took care of it fine. Does your splitter have a valve on it? If it does, you will need to put the valve past the detent or if it doesn't have a detent to hold the valve open you can use a bungee cord. Even if you don't have a valve on the splitter you can still use the valve on the tractor. It just won't be very convenient. That is one big valve for that size of tractor. It must be at least a 40-gpm valve.

Thanks Jerry, I dont have a splitter yet, my neighbors been trying to get me to buy one of his but I keep going back to the 3 pt deal to be able to raise or lower.

I dont know why such a large valve, I dont know the GPM of the tractor off the top of my head but I know its not that much!

Thanks again for your input.

The valve is physically large because is gpm rating is probably in the 20-30 gpm range. It was originally purchased because it was probably easy to obtain from the dealer. From my experience the bigger, over 20 gpm valves seem to be easier to obtain. The pump in your tractor is probably around 10 gpm.

Mornin Ref,
Yes, I think that valve was on the shelf at the dealers when the owner needed hyd power to the rear of the tractor, plain and simple /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If nothing else, and at present, it makes a convienent place to hang my hearing protection /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the reply!
