2005 Jimna 284 -

3 Point lift has gradually lost lift over time.

Front loader works fine. I have pulled apart and put new seals on the 3-point valve (the assembly attached to the side of the fluid&piston case), pulled and changed rings and seals on the piston, pulled and put new seals on the speed adjustment valve (front of seat). I have not found anything that looks like an obvious failure (blown seal, bent/broken rod, etc)

I am getting no pressure at the piston whatsoever, even with implement detached from arms. I have tried the full range of adjustment on the valve at the front of the seat. No love. With the knob/ adjusting valve assembly completely removed, I would expect some fluid to flow out under pressure, but the fluid just sits level. I'm not sure what else to investigate in the hydraulic system. This issue seems to point to a problem with the 3-point valve, but I can't find anything wrong with it.

Ideas?

thanks
Kurt

I would agree, with the speed reg valve in front of the seat removed, fluid should gush up out of it's hole when you try to lift the 3PH using the control valve. Here is a silly question, is fluid reaching the 3PH control valve? The fluid leaves the pump to the QC's, from there thru the FEL and back thru the QC's. It then flows thru the diverter valve(in front of right foot when seated on the tractor) and from there back to the 3PH control valve. Usually most all the fluid flows thru the diverter and back thru the 3PH control valve and into the reservoir(or into the cylinder when lifting the 3PH). What the diverter valve does is when the steering is using fluid, it "diverts" the flow into the steering and denies the 3PH as steering is more important than the 3PH.

Now normally there is a small ammount of flow thru the steering, and as you turn the wheel this flow increases significantly. That increase in flow causes the diverter to shift as much flow as needed to meet the needs of the steering. So when I am turning my wheel, my 3PH will not lift. If your steering valve is leaking past, the ammount of flow thru the steering valve may be keeping the diverter diverted. Or the diverter piston may be stuck in the divert position sending all fluid to the steering and returning to the reservoir via the pipe running along the left side of the gearbox.

If you have a mechanics stethescope(a few bucks from harbor freight or most any autoparts store), you should be able to listen to the various pipes and see where the fluid is flowing as the fluid usually makes a little noise where it flows thru transitions and unions. You could also use a wrench and unscrew the end cap on the diverter to expose the spring and piston assembly. A mechanics magnet(magnet on a stick) can be used and you should be able to easilly retract the piston from the body as it should move easilly/freely.

I would suspect the diverter valve also. My tractor has 1000 hrs on it and twice I have had a issue. It was no steering but a issue none the less. Took it off, disassembled, cleaned, reinstalled, and all was fine.

Both times I found what looked to be a flake of paint.

I think you mean Priority Valve. The diverter valve is on the sump.

Correct. Priority valve located just above and behind the starter.

Thanks guys. Good suggestion, I'll pull apart that valve and see what we have...

Give our mechanic a call, he is very good at trouble shooting over the phone. I am sure he can help you with this problem.
