)

FarmPros are Jinma tractors but the tractor you buy will not come with a warranty from Jinma. It will be from the company you buy the tractor from. You may get a FarmPro dealer/mechanic to work on it for you but unless it is labeled FarmPro they will charge you.

( Will most tractor dealers work on Jinmas or will they tell you to go somewhere else? )

Do you mean if you go to a Deere or Kubota shop will they work on it? Probably not but it all depends on the shop. Some are kind of snooty about the grey markets and don't like that competetion so I would bet they might not like a Chinese tractor in their shop either. But then again if you find a guy that wants to put some money in the cash register you may find yourself a mechanic.

Would recommend going to the FarmPro dealer and see how close they can come to the other dealers price. Talk service with them and get a feel for your local dealer. If you decide to go with a Jinma, your local dealer is probably a better bet for you.

There are multiple importers of parts, especially for the common 254/284 JInma tractors. Parts are much less expensive than major brand parts because of the low cost in China and the competition of multiple suppliers/importers here. That should prevent a problem like the importer going out of business leaving everyone high and dry.

Usedcarz hit the resale issue right on the mark. Cost of ownership is what you pay minus what you get, (add interest if financing). I think in most cases it is not only cheaper to buy, but cheaper to own a Chinese tractor.

However, you will need the cooperation of a servicing dealer if you don't want to fix it yourself. You need to ask the Farm Pro dealer if he is willing. He will not do warranty work, (Are you getting a warranty at that price?).

To answer your question: (great tractor or junk?) truthfully, not either! They are a good tractor for lots of people who want to buy new but don't want to spend what a new major brand tractor costs.

They are a great solution for those who are mechanically inclined. they are pretty basic machines and not hard to work on. THey do take a little more tinkering than the more expensive brands.

I don't care how good jelden's service is, I won't go all the way to Germany to buy one! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think Zhung Jun meant www.deljen.com

I realize that this post is a bit late, but I had to get some hours on my Jinma 284 before I felt like I could really contribute. I have now put 60 hours on my machine, in a bit more than a month. I have a small horse ranch in northern Nevada, and use my tractor a lot. To date, I have had two problems, one of which the dealer (Adams Tractors, The Dalles, OR) warned me about. The first problem was the clutch safety switch moved out of position during transport of the tractor when I bought it. Easy fix. The second problem is periodic: the bendix sometimes doesn't engage the flywheel when starting. Simply trying again usually takes care of this.
I plowed about an acre of our wonderful packed clay/hardpan soil, and I have to say it was not a bad go using the 284. It did warm to about 90 degrees C a couple times, but it was digging some especially tough stuff at the time.
After doing everything around here with an 8N, the 284 is a dream. As the year goes on, especially next winter, I will be able to better determine my long-term opinion. But, as others have already posted, right now I think this tractor is wonderful. Just wish we could get better translations of the manuals!

Talk to Adam, if you haven't already, about the starter. A number of Jinma owners were having that issue in cold start situations. It generated allot of discussion, and I believe Deljen looked into it, and it was a run of bad starters. But not sure about that. Adam probably has the scoop.

Hello, I really can not say anything bad against jimnas, but I will give you some advice and some things to look at. All tractors, new or used will break down. THE VALUE OF THE TRACTOR IS NOT IN THE SALE PRICE. It is in service and suport. What I have found out from my experience is it is best to buy a big three machine, even if it is used, there are alot of used machines out there that come with alot of equiptment. You have a budget, and you have an idea of what size tractor you think you need. Go with a larger tractor, and a name brand. Used machines you will find have the bugs worked out of them, if you buy a used machine from a dealer, get an extended warranty if they can offer it. Extended warranties for grey market tractors in some situations could prove to be a waste of money, at least with a name brand you will have that SUPPORT and that Sir is where the value is. New or used, they all break, Name brand or grey, they all break, the question is how easy will it be to get service, you answered that, you have to drive 60 miles for this machine, I doubt you will find a mechanic closer than that to work on it, but I could be wrong, but at least with a name brand, you know you have SUPPORT. I hope this helps.
