Jinma 184, new problem. Gear shift is kapute.

Shifted out of reverse. When to put it in first, nothing. Gear shift lever just flops around. Any suggestions. Going to pull transmission top and look inside, hopefully tomorrow when it is supposed to stop raining , but what am I looking for :confused2: ?
Oh, yeah, only got 1/4 of the hay loaded and covered and this happens, way the other side of the property and nothing I can use to pull it home by myself. So going to be doing this in the open elements.

Probably broke the end off the shift lever. Yank it out, bring it to the shop and weld it up. Best of luck with it.

If your transmission is like mine (Jinma 354) the cover comes off with just a few bolts, very easy. I had a shift fork break, similar symptoms. It was easily replaced just by lifting the cover and taking out the old part and putting in the new one, a 10 minute repair. The hardest part was getting the new piece!

It's also possible the bottom tip simply jumped out of the rail fork. Either way, you must remove the cover plate for a look AND be prepared to cut a new gasket before bolting the plate back in place. If in fact the tip broke off, the hardest part will actually be locating and removing the broken piece. Not doing so opens you up to subsequent and more severe transmission damage. Lets just hope it simply slipped out of the fork

Ok, here is the problem.

I might be able to weld it from the out side but would not be very strong. Really need access to the back side, so guess I will order from Tommy.

Good news, Tommy had the shift rod, gasket and rubber boot in stock. Will ship out tomorrow morning.:thumbsup:

Got the parts are told. Worked great except I must have had that thing about 5 times to get everything correct. The last time was all finished and forgot to bend over the safety tabs on the shift gate plate.
