I've been having all the electrical problems encountered by many other owners. Gauges intermittent, now not working at all. I've been through loads of the old posts here which all say the same thing about bad grounds etc. I have pulled the cluster (older style), cleaned every terminal I can, redone connections behind the fuses, run a fresh ground etc. Spent hours on it, but still no joy.
Because its summer here in Australia and hot, I couldn't live without a temp gauge, so as I posted here when talking about putting in a new radiator and doing the head gasket, I put in a separate mechanical temp gauge. Readings are spot on when checked with a probe thermometer.
My fuel gauge is pegged hard right with the power on, back to zero when the switch is off. Suggests a short, so I've cleaned the connections on the wires at the sender on the fuel tank etc. Even pulled the float to check it wasn't stuck.
My suspicion is that it could be in the circuit board wiring but I can't really afford a new cluster.
Can anyone confirm if I can put in one of the old style single Jinma fuel gauges and wire it back to the existing sender? Are they compatible?
Thanks
Mark
