Tdog Where is the hydraulic cylinder for the steering located? SO when you turn it to the left fine, do you have trouble getting it back to center, or do you have trouble going to the right from center? IF you are having trouble going to the right from center, Is there a rubber boot over the cylinder rod? If so remove the rubber boot and check where the heim joint is screwed onto the rod end. This can actually unscrew itself back off the rod threads if the lock nut has become loose. What it looks like is you slowly start to have less and less available steering to one side as the rod end unscrews and the piston/rod dosn't have enough travel to push/pull the steering any farther in that direction. If not corrected eventually it will fall off. ALl this of course occurs under that rubber boot where you cannot see it...
If it turns fine to the left, but has problems turning back to center from the left and right of center after that, it may be an issue with the rotary vane pump at the bottom of the steering comumn. It also occurs that sometimes cylinder seals fail so that they leak easier one direction, at least initially. The way to determine which is which is with a mechanics stethescope. While someone turns the wheel in the good direction, listen with the mechanics stethescope on the steering cylinder hydraulic fittings(don't get crushed by the mechanism). You should be able to hear the woosh of fluid thru the fittings as the fluid moves to operate the cylinder. Then have them turn the steering in the weak direction. If you hear the same ammount of fluid flow on the fittings, but the cylinder is moving less, that fluid is most likley leaking past the piston seal in the cylinder. If you are not hearing the same flow, the fluid isn't reaching the cylinder so the rotary valve/vane pump at the bottom of the steering colunm is probably the issue...
