Just changed the oil in my Jinma 254 engine .This is the engine I changed bad rod bearings in.
Why does the oil on the dip stick look clean and the oil I drained out look black?Am I not getting circulation?

thanks

The oil you are looking at on the dipstick is a very thin layer seen against the shiny metal background of the dipstick.

The oil draining out is a much thicker sample so you are seeing more of the suspended particles than on the dipstick sample. It will look darker.

Take your dipstick and dip it into the oil you drained out and it should look the same as it did when that oil was in the engine.

Since I have exactly zero out of six diesels that do that, I'd say it sounds like you're using non-detergent oil. With detergent-type, contaminants small enough to pass through the filter remain suspended in the oil. With non-detergent types, they just settle out.

Either that, or you've installed a filter with a faulty or incorrect bypass for diesel.

rkevis, I agree with RonMar opinion. Light has a lot to do with it I think. Over the years I have noticed that on a lot of different oils.....even have stuck my finger in it and it looked pretty good....then drain it and it looked a lot darker. If I were to let it drain in my hand and look at it with a drop light ....it looks cleaner. [thinner] If I have a question about an oil I am draining ......I look for something that has mixed with it and or particles of something and yes, color.

Don't know how much you have used it since the repair????......but I think if you are having an oil circulation problem.....your post topic would be about something else.

If oil pressure is good and no noises......see what it looks like next time......

Well, if I took your post literally, I'd say because the oil on the stick is fresh and clean having just changed it. RonMar is correct on the "depth" of color being less due to the amount of oil on the stick, if your referring to the stick color prior to draining and refilling.
