Jinma 254
:confused:I have a Jinma 254 tractor that has water getting into the crankcase and a lot back pressure that forces oil and water out of the breather on the side of the crankcase.I removed the head and found the head gasket not the cause. The cylinder sleeves will turn in the crankcase with finger pressure?I was told on this model(Y385 diesel)does not have "o"rings on the bottom of the sleeves and is held in place by the head.I am lost for a diagnosis.Any help would be appreciated??

It's gotta be either a cracked block, bad head, or bad cylinder liner fit, I suppose. Do you have a manual for the engine? That should show whether or not it has O-rings. Alternately, have you called either Tommy at Affordable or Ronald at RanchHand to get some guidance? Those guys are the tops for information on these things.

The back pressure thing makes me think the issue involves either the liners or the head since obviously combustion gasses are getting where they aren't intended to go and pressurizing the lower end.

Could be several things but it sounds like a cracked block at the liner counterbore.
Was the tractor exposed to very cold temperatures?

I hope you replaced the head gasket with new. But that's another problem. As to your original question, cleaning that breather should be on your maintenance list no less than two times a year. Have you ever actually cleaned it?

If it makes you feel any better when I had to replace the rear cam bearing on my 204 the liners could be moved around as well. They'd move so easy in fact that I made 3 pieces of 2 x 4 bolted down to the block with the head bolts so they wouldn't keep popping up when I'd turn over the engine....Mike

The Y385 has dry sleeves so they will move up and down with the piston,I hope you checked all the freeze plugs on the head, I have seen alot of them leak and cause the block to fill with water and come out the respirator, other than that I might be a cracked block.

I keep replacement blocks in stock as well as every other part on that engine.

Let me know if we can help

Just so you know, when the engine is at operating temperature the cylinder liners and engine block expand and they become very tight in their bores, they are designed to do that - another strong argument for keeping your cooling system clean.

Makes sense. Mine was far from operating temp, middle of winter, semi unheated garage. Heck, I was far from operating temperature lol.....Mike

The O-ring seals of the liner can leak if the material breaks down. Maybe part of the problem. Engine is too new to have cavitation in the liners.
