oil housing direction question

Hello everyone, hydraulic housing direction seem to be wrong... attached to this is a picture showing direction should be going right and the arrow currently is pointing going left ATTACH=CONFIG]423824[/ATTACH]

Thank you all for your help... I've been working on this tractor every evening since last week and one day all will work out.

It is going to the right,,
from tank to filter to pump and out to spools etc,,

Good day skyhook thank you for the quick reply, I just added a new picture = the way filter housing is currently installed and I have a feeling it should be the other way around yes?

I would say yes, thats not the same picture that was there before.
I don't know about that filter housing but the oil should be filtered 'before it hits the pump etc.

A filter on the suction line? That's a sure fire way to cause pump cavitation. Hydraulic oil should be filtered just before it goes back into the tank/sump.

I agree but unfortunately that's the way these tractors are, suction filters and no return filters....Mike

There are two styles of hydraulic pump. One has openings on top and below the pump. With this pump, the lower hole is the suction and the upper hole is the discharge. The other pup has a top discharge and an end suction. I am pretty sure that the upper hole is the pump discharge in both cases.
The pump suction is basically a strainer - on mine I have a 140 micron strainer. I replace the hydraulic fluid every couple of years (only 12 litres or 3 US gallons).
Have attached a picture of my pump for comparison. The thingy on the top is an external relief valve that I added after ruining a new hydraulic pump (expensive lesson).

As you can see from my pump, the discharge port has only two bolt holes. The port you show looks to be the pump suction (from the filter) and should be the lower hole and it has it has four bolt holes.
